Principal Suncare Chemist

_ Principal Sun Protection Chemist with 5-7yrs experience developing skincare and in particular sun protection products required for permanent role with leading multinational.


PURPOSE OF JOB:

o Support the Skincare formulation strategy.
o To develop and deliver robust sun protection technology for Suncare and daily skincare ranges.
o To develop new technologies in sun protection to support new product stories and enhanced competitive positioning for suncare and skincare NPD.


SCOPE OF JOB:

o Working closely with the skincare NPD Manager and Formulation Technology Manager act as R&D expert on sun protection formulation technology.
o Work with the skincare NPD and Technology development teams to build library of skincare formulation bases
o Deliver sun protection NPD
o The job is based in Ireland but may involve travel to Stockholm Sweden for discussions with Marketing, Skin Research, packaging and purchasing teams and may require visits to manufacturing plants in Poland, India or China


KEY RESULTS AREAS:

1. Lead Suncare Library Development
o Own and drive the development of a library of sun protection bases for suncare and skincare ranges across all price bands and complexity.
o Ensure the library includes appropriate bases and technologies to support current NPD and future consumer, market and regulatory needs.
o Provide all relevant information including stability and efficacy testing data is available to ensure the technologies can enter NPD with minimal risk.
o Work Collaboratively with claims testing facility, to develop robust bases and optimised sun protection claims.

2. Lead Suncare and Sun Protection NPD development
o Lead NPD for suncare and sun protection ranges.
o Work closely with all the skincare teams to exploit and derive commercial benefit from existing technologies.
o Lead the skincare Innovation and Ideation Process for the Sun protection sector gathering , interpreting and applying strategic Technical Insights for the sun protection sector as appropriate.
o Advise Marketing on the latest trends, technical insights and regulatory issues in the uv protection arena

3. Driving Sun Protection Formulation Science
o Work closely with suppliers of raw materials and other external technologies to maximise commercial benefit within the area of sun protection.
o Lead appropriate collaborations with external agencies and suppliers to ensure the sun protection technology offer is competitive.
o Support the development of the overall Cross Category Technology Strategy.
o Work closely with the Skin delivery team in the Skin Research Institute to understand the performance and constraints of active ingredients especially in relation to sun protection technology


QUALIFICATIONS:

o Good first Degree in a scientific discipline
o Extensive knowledge of cosmetic ingredients particularly sunscreens
o 5-7 years experience developing skincare and in particular sun protection products


COMPETENCIES:

o Proven track record of investigative approach particularly in areas that are unfamiliar.
o Experience gained through formulating complex skincare products
o Lateral thinker with proven ability to generate creative solutions to problems
o Self motivated and capable of working on own initiative
o Strong problem solving abilities.
o Flexible and able to work in a fast paced environment
o Good communication skills and experience in tailoring communications to meet the needs of a variety of different stakeholders.
o Experience in Project Management
o Result orientated
